Through genealogical research, I learned that I was a descendant of many Civil War soldiers, including men who served in the 33rd Indiana Infantry (Corporal William H. Owens and Private John Quincy Owens, Co. I). During my graduate program in the late 90’s at the University of Indianapolis, I became particularly interested in the regiment and decided to write my Master’s thesis on the 33rd. I not only chronicled the movements of the regiment, but studied the men themselves, learning a great deal about the average Indiana Civil War soldier. I acquired much more information than I could possibly include in my thesis project and hope to include all my research into a future book on the regiment. Since my days at the University of Indianapolis, I have gone on to earn my Ph.D. in history at Purdue University and am now an assistant professor at Indiana Wesleyan University. I live in suburban Indianapolis with my wife and two children. My interest and research into antebellum America and the Civil War continues!

Dr. Chris Walker Assistant Professor of History Division of Liberal Arts, Indiana Wesleyan University – National & Global I have always been passionately in the American Civil War.
